About Me – Instructing Career:

Grade S Licenced MSA Approved Instructor

I have been instructing since 1999 and have worked at some of the busiest race schools in the country as well as coaching at many track days at most of the UK’s premier circuits and latterly in Europe too.

I have worked for various manufacturers on their launch events including: BMW, Jaguar and Nissan.

Personal Driver Coaching: I currently prepare several Formula Ford 1600’s mainly for the Northern FF1600 Championship and also the Historic Formula Ford Series. I am also now looking after a Historic Formula Junior Car, which will see action around the UK and Europe.

I am continuously  involved in the process of tutoring & coaching several drivers prior to the launch of their individual motorsport careers mainly in Formula Ford 1600 and other single seaters.

1985-1987 Speed Events in a Methanol fuelled Special Saloon Mini

1987-1996 Speed Events in a Formula Ford 1600

1997-2008 Circuit racing in North West Formula Ford 1600 Championship

I have had many class & individual wins during my competition career culminating in:

2007 Overall Pre-1990 North West Formula Ford Champion

2007 Overall Class C Champion North West Formula Ford Championship

This included: 4 wins, 9 podiums & 5 pole positions

I still hold the Formula Ford Class record for speed events at Aintree which was set in Sept 2004.

2020: News Update                                                                                                                                                                                                           

 2020 was a year of transition for many reasons not least of which was the effect that the COVID-19 pandemic had on us all.

Fortunately, motorsport was able to get underway in July with some testing a few weeks prior to this.

2020 saw Ian Ellis and Will Alterman make their debuts in the Radical SR1 Cup. In association with TFL Racing, both drivers started their season at Snetterton in July. Whilst very much a shortened year, both drivers acquitted themselves extremely well. Scott Rawlinson had a handful of testing outings in his trusty Van Diemen RF85 to blow away a few cobwebs after nearly 2 years out of the cockpit. Dave Billington had an outing in the very popular Heritage FF1600 Championship when it visited his local circuit, Oulton Park, for the Gold Cup meeting in August. Syd Fraser concentrated mainly on his Formula Junior (now resplendent in its BRM colours as an homage to its role in the motion picture “Grand Prix”) but he ,too, found time to have a couple of outings in his FF1600 also. In addition to this, we managed to squeeze Andy Thomas into a couple of appearances in the Northern FF1600 Championship which this year was being run alongside the National Series. With all the restrictions put in place because of the COVID-19 outbreak, it was still quite busy on the Trackday scene: instruction was slow to get started with limits on social distancing etc. However, we were still quite busy on the ARDS race licence courses which was great to see!
